COMMON SENSE SPIRITUALITY
Welcome to the Shetland Monk. Happy New Year and welcome to 2008.
As you can see from the title we are based in the beautiful yet remote Shetland Islands. Shetland can be found on the outer edges of the United Kingdom somewhere between Norway and the tip of Scotland. Shetland is a rare and precious gem amidst the unforgiving seas of the North Atlantic.
The title also alludes to a monastic theme of spirituality. In today's world true spirituality is a sought after thing. Some see it as an unattainable antidote to the hedonstic lifestyle that so many people are engaged in. Other see it as the cure for an ever increasing level of stress upon our lives. To a point these things are true, however, as a Christian I believe that there is only one purpose in exploring our spirituality and that is to engage with God and deepen our relationship with him. Our relationship with God is the most important aspect of our daily lives. The closer we come to God then the stronger our relationship with Him. But all this is not just intended as a form of personal enlightenment but more that God may shine through us brightly. This will greatly improve the relationships we have with all those around us, and the light of God will shine into their lives and affect them for His good.
Our societies need to engage with the deeper things in life, the mysteries of who we are, where we come from and what our purpose is. Through this website we aim to throw a little of God's light into the lives of others.

Well, I find sitting down with a cup of coffee and another person is a great way to open up and share our spiritual lives with each other. There are many coffee comments on this site.
